Farming

Apples can be obtained by farming in an orchard or in hydroponics.

Orchards can be fertilized multiplying their production speed to x4 and lasting 10 seconds per fertilizer, meaning one fertilizer should provide a speed buff for long enough to grow an apple field halfway through.

You can not fertilize a crop placed in hydroponics.

As you can see from the table above, fertilizing your apple crops provides over a 4 times multiplier to your production (4.167 to be exact).

Since four hydroponics takes more space than one apple crop, and with fertilizer being very easy to obtain a lot of; its always worth apple fields over hydroponics if you have the option to (the only real limitation being that hydroponics can be placed underground and crop fields can't).

Additionally, Trees have a 76.2% chance to drop one apple upon being cut down

Crates

There is a 22.2% chance to get 5 apples from a crate floating on the waters between Sunset Haven and Starting Island.

Apples are used in one cooking recipe:

Quests

The "Apple Seeds" Quest given by the Farmer requires 4 apples and rewards the player with one apple seed .

This is 4 wood cheaper than the usual price of apple seeds when you talk to the farmer a few times to open his crafting menu.
