Cultivator Island

From Aground Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Cultivator Island is the second magic island on Unoiks 428c, east of Eastern Island and west of Divider Island, and home to the bosses The Cultivator and The Storm.

In addition to regular fish enemies, the far left of the ocean here contains a Kraken.

The island does not have an official name when you save your game here. If you try to travel here by Teleportal, or use the Trader’s shipping service, it appears as "???". This is possibly because there are three islands here (counting the large floating island above the main area).

The Alchemist gives you a quest to “go east” to Cultivator Island after you defeat the Old One together or he does so alone (in which case this will be the last quest he gives you, because the strain of defeating the Old One kills him). The Hunter foreshadows the presence of this island in dialogue when you rest in his tent for the second time, specifically that there are multiple islands east of the Starting Island. Cultivator Island has several NPCs who will help you progress on the magic path as you gain new equipment, unlock the Spellcasting stat in your skill tree, and even build magical spaceships to fly you to the stars.

Elder Dragon Island

While it isn't technically connected to the main part of the island, the Elder Dragon Island is still considered a part of it. Elder Dragon Island is made entirely of rune blocks, the same kind found around portals and the Old One's lair, and is west of the main area. Scattered randomly through the runestone are five Evolution Shards, which can be used together to make an Evolution Gem. You may have to search the entire island to obtain the full set and bring them to an Evolution Chamber.

The island does not count as an actual shoreline from which you can summon a Boat; this makes it inconvienient to sail to Cultivator Island from the west, if you summon your boat to the actual beach of the main area by accident, you will have to pack it up to move it to the other side of Elder Dragon Island and sail back to Eastern Island. Flying an Adult Dragon will allow you to reach the highest part of the island where the Elder Dragon lives without mining through the runestone.

The island is shaped vaguely like a flat-topped pyramid and it floats in place far above the seafloor. It rises 8 tiles out of the water, with the Elder Dragon residing at the top. There is enough space to build a Storehouse and a Hut on either side of the Elder Dragon; a Storehouse can also hold many items to sell to the Fish Merchant off the east coast.

Most of the area of the isle is below the water; if you manage to avoid flooding it, which will use up your oxygen (drilling out the sides and letting too much water in, before refilling it or using the Book of Absorption), you can build multiple large structures such as an HQ Library and a Talon Copse (both will fit within the island if a large enough space is dug out). Many Coral Pens can also fit here if you decide to make a large Coral Farm. With no enemies to disturb you, you can build a large base of operations on top of and within Elder Dragon Island.

NPCs

The Elder Dragon here provides information and quests.

Main Area

On the surface, near the western end is a pillar with the Water Helm recipe, and below and at a random location at depth 32, there is a pillar with the Queen Drill recipe, surrounded by spirit guide blocks.

Structures

Vine Copse

MagicVineCopse.png

The Vine Copse crafts magic seeds (including its own) and enchanted nets, and modifies familiars. It can be uprooted, reverting to a seed. Vine Copse Seeds (other than the original, born from the Cultivator’s remains) can only grow on a wide enough flat area of fertile ground.

Enemies

The main area of Cultivator Island is home to The Cultivator, which must be killed to unlock the Vine Copse (it shrivels and becomes an inactive Vine Copse when it dies; the Plant Gem dropped by the Cultivator can be used to activate it). Contains a Plant Spirit, visible using red goggles.

The Plant Spirit here, unlike its counterpart on Eastern Island, is active during both day and night. The same goes for the Crawlers, which roam the island 24 (in-game) hours a day.

Mining

Similar to Eastern Island, Cultivator Island is made of the two Magic Stone types and many ores. There is no red Magic Dirt here; the fertile surface of the ground transitions immediately into the pink stone below. Consequently, there are no Leech enemies here. Far down in the blue rock layer are five more Evolution Shards.

Dragon Ship Island

Dragon Ship Island is a floating island home to the Dragon Ship Factory, and is guarded by The Storm. The Elder Dragon simply calls it "Dragon Island", but referring to it as "Dragon Ship Island" makes it clearer what the function of this place is; it does not have any dragons (until you bring your own dragons here), and has no lair/cave to raise baby dragons into adult dragons, but it can transform your own elder dragons into powerful spaceships with greater capacity and stronger attacks than a Fighter Escort.

The snow-covered surface of the island rises 32 tiles into the air, the same altitude as the summit of The Heights. Despite being just as high as the planet’s tallest mountain, the island is considered unsuitable by the Mechanic for building a Com Station if you go there and call her. A jet with the Jet Engine Upgrade, an Elder Dragon, or a Mecha Dragon can fly high enough to land on the surface of the island, but before you evolve a Dragonship on the magic path you cannot fly above the island with personal equipment. At its lowest, Dragon Ship Island is still 12 tiles above the ground, too high for an Adult Dragon or Dragon Armor to reach.

On the left side of the island is a pillar with the Helium Pack recipe.

Harvesting

The floating island is snowbound, so cannot be planted on.

Dragon Ship Factory

You can evolve Elder Dragons into Dragon Ships or Mecha Dragons into Mecha Dragon Ships at the Dragon Factory. It is partially underground, with the bottom third of what is visible in this image buried beneath the snow and rock of the island; however this does not affect gameplay. Elder Dragons and Mecha Dragons must be “deployed” or landed in the area of the Factory in order to evolve them, along with the player providing the other necessary ingredients. While the Factory does not heal the health of dragons that land there, unlike what Dragon Lairs do automatically, it can repair damage to any kind of dragonship once the player lands there and steps outside. It is even compatible with the newer kinds of dragonship from the HQ Dragon Chamber.

After the “Evolve Dragon Ship” quest is started and still not completed, the Elder Dragon will mention in various lines of dialogue that the Dragon Ship Factory of Cultivator Island is thousands of years old and probably out of date. He remains optimistic that evolving the very first model of dragonship could be the first step toward defeating Them. His speculation is proven correct once Bombardment is triggered and the player sees the three new types of dragon ship: Fighters, Bombers, and Cruisers. The HQ Dragon Chamber, first encountered at Enemy/Alien HQ, is a plantable upgraded version of the Dragon Ship Factory that can evolve the Factory’s ships for a lower crafting cost, in addition to the new ships, Dragomechs, and Amethyst Queen Drills.

Enemies

The Storm can only be damaged by fire weapons, but if you make an Evolution Gem, complete the Sea Witch's quest, and talk to the Elder Dragon after going to this area, you will receive a quest to give the Elder Dragon a revitalizing potion so that it can kill the Storm for you. Ranged attacks are the best way to hit The Storm, as you will not always be able to melee attack it and it can hit you with powerful attacks if you are too close. See the Bosses page for more tips on how to defeat it yourself.

After the player accepts the “Evolve Dragon Ship” quest but before defeating The Storm, attempting to use the Factory will only get a dialogue box saying “The Dragon Ship Factory is too frozen to use...” The Elder Dragon and Sea Witch state that The Storm was put there by the old ones to guard the Factory and prevent it from ever being used again:

“Dragon Island is guarded by a dangerous ice monster...”

“They created that storm guardian for a reason...”

The Sea Witch says the latter statement after she discovers you have evolved a ship, and warms you that Bombardment is coming before she flees home to the Fish Village. On the Hybrid Path, there is still time to create a Bombardment Shield by using the Wyrm Tunnels to reach the Mirrows in the Water Cave, provided the Ship Parts and Evolve Mecha Dragon quests have been completed. That strategy will bypass Sunset Haven and the Starting Island, delaying Bombardment.

Mining

The floating island is 20 tiles tall, and the depth listed is relative to the top.

The top of the island is a layer of soft snow one tile deep, before the double layers of rock begin.

The upper half of the island is composed of gray stone similar to the Ice Island; the lower half is composed of pink stone with a layer of lava. Within and below the lava are an additional five Evolution Shards.

Fish Village

The Fish Village is accessed by either swimming down past the right side of the island, or digging down in the right side. A vertical line of spirit blocks at the eastern end of the main island shows the way to dig down; you will need a mining tool of mine 5 or higher to dig all the way down to where an entry point leads to the village, as detailed in the next sentence. To the left of the village is a cavern with air walled off by magic, and in the middle of the village is a coral with air bubbles that refills UIO2.png oxygen.

The Sea Witch and her cat will also be found in this area after completing her quest and talking to her after building a Dragon Ship. This will also unlock the second tier of spellbooks after talking to the Librarian.

The village is located at a depth of about 78 or 79; digging down into the sand and allowing water to flood in behind you will count as diving below a depth of 80. Unless you have Scale Mail or Carapace Armor equipped, this will damage your health the longer you stay submerged.

NPCs

Structures

The structures in the Village are unique and cannot be made with seeds or blueprints.

The Library

Can craft spellbooks.

The Fish Merchant's Market

Buys and sells magic materials.

The Sea Witch's Hut

Rests and restores oxygen and stamina.

Enemies

The village contains a Water Spirit. It moves left and right across the seafloor.

Mining

As the village is underwater, there are only sand blocks to mine, though some contain raw oil.
