Terraformer Island

Terraformer Island is one of the two islands on the Colony Planet, along with the Colony Mainland. It is given the name due to a Terraformer running in the middle of the surface.

The CaptAIn describes the Colony Planet as previously having a harsh climate; this Terraformer was built to make the land fertile for crops and eventually a thriving settlement, but when news of the attack on Earth reached the CaptAIn, that work was halted and the colony focused on war preparations. If you build the Com Station after defeating the Final Boss, the CaptAIn will explain that the colony instituted radio silence to keep the enemy from finding them. The power source to the existing terraformer has since been removed, similar to the existing Advanced Lab on Divider Island.

In the present day, Terraformer Island is partially fertile with a layer of gray dirt like Sunset Haven’s which overlies desert sand. Lenticular clouds, formed by the far distant background mountains, shadow the island and often provide rain to the forest (this weather may have been caused by the Terraformer changing the local climate). Also in common with Sunset Haven, Terraformer Island has a small forest of temperate Conifers, Bushes, and Red Bushes. By day, Camoflora bask in the sun all around the island unless the player’s presence sufficiently disturbs them. At night, other creatures come out such as the distinctive two-headed Dubex.

Terraformers need a power source to transform the land or craft anything for you. The island’s Terraformer still has some fuel left, and once you connect a power supply the Terraformer will finish its work. turning the rest of the island’s surface into fertile Western Dirt from coast to coast. More trees and bushes of your choice can then be planted. If you keep the power on and build any kind of storehouse, you can still use the terraformer to craft non-magical seeds from crops, fruit, and wood. The blueprint can be crafted in the Blueprint Printer of the colony ship out in orbit for 8 polymer paper.

Structures

There is an active Terraformer on the island, with 50 fuel remaining, and has already partially terraformed the surface.

The Terraformer requires a power source to craft or do anything. Once connected to electricity, it can craft plant or crop seeds like the Vine or Talon Copse, and be fueled with Exotic Matter or Exotic Gas. Refueling the existing Terraformer will just transform the rest of the island’s surface into fertile gray soil, but on other planets terraformers can do much more. Building a terraformer on Unoiks 428b, Mercury, or Mars will change a barren airless planet into an oxygenated grassy plain. A fully fueled terraformer will be able to transform the entire surface of any of those three planets. You will also get the achievement “New Earth” for building your own terraformer. Terraformers need to stay fueled to maintain a breathable atmosphere on their own, but once the ground is fertile 8 or more trees (of any type except Crystal Trees and Spirit Trees) can be planted on the surface to permanently make the air oxygenated.
